The Tale of Aje Part 2

You can read the Tale of Aje Part 1 in the previous post

You see the word “Aje” in Yoruba language has several meaning, one interpretation is a witch as in the negative meaning of a witch. For this tale of Aje we will discuss 3 meanings of Aje according to the Yoruba language that relates to the Iyaami/Iyaami Osoronga.

1st Meaning of Aje

Aje in Yoruba language can mean Wealth. Meaning the Orisa of wealth. Or used as in a day of wealth. In Yoruba tradition Monday is a day of wealth.

2nd Meaning of Aje

Aje in Yoruba language can mean he/she/it will answer. For example Iyaami Aje in English means when I call my mother she will answer.

3rd Meaning of Aje

Aje in Yoruba language can mean will eat it. Meaning I will eat it. Or he or she will eat it.

Why the above 3 particular interpretations of Aje in relation to Iyaami/Iyaami Osoronga? And not the negative energy, the negative damaging aspect associated with Aje when it is translated as a witch. You see the way we use words are very important. We SPELL words. A word is a SPELL, as in magical spell. How we use, think and connect to a word will shape our experience of it and the impact it has on our life as well as the life of those around us.

So you see the women that were labeled “Aje” as in witch which widely carried a negative energy were and still are women of wealth, wise women, mysterious women, wild women, powerful women, sacred women, the women that could not be tamed, controlled or coerced.

Watch out for the continuation of the Tale of Aje in Tale 3, and maybe 4 in the next coming posts. The climax is a beautiful story of how Iyaami Aje came to be.
