Self Commitment - Officially 8 Days Sober

On the 1st of January 2023, a bold move was made to announce to the world on social media my first official day of sobriety. It was not in the form of a new years resolution or maybe it was subconsciously. Something powerful came over me, this had to be shared with the world not just for personal accountability, but also to encourage anyone with something that may seem challenging to keep going, find ways to keep going, and not give up.

Thy Will Be Done Oh Lord

About 4 years ago, the journey of sobriety began. It came about from realisations and understandings of living a life based on a practical spiritual foundation for healing and a healthy life. Prior to that, had been on a healing journey for a few years which opened my consciousness to existence on many different dimensions. Drinking alcohol no longer seemed relevant in life, and partying nights were slowly replaced with yoga and meditation mornings.

In addition had a deep spiritual experience at a time of serious illness which resulted in a commitment to quit drinking alcohol, to heal and to help others on their healing journey. The last 4 years of sobriety were challenging, relapsed a few times, managed to stay sober for over a year, for many months, many weeks, but then alcohol will find is way back either through the “one drink syndrome” or simply caving in.

The 4 years struggle with sobriety were a blessing, they showed that alcohol was something that can quickly become more powerful and dangerous than the fanciful idea of just the fun innocent drink. That there is a problem with alcoholism, it wasn’t just a necessity to quit for work but also for healing and a healthy life, that a lot of support was needed for the sobriety journey, and that self will and self reliance was not enough to heal alcoholism.

The 4 years of doing it alone, were tough especially not knowing the extent or nature of the alcoholism as it presented itself in this case. These 4 years were an opening door to cultivating honesty and strong determination. A strong determination to not give up the journey no matter how many times failure has been encountered, no matter how tough the journey gets, the lessons of getting up quicker and picking up the pieces, making amends for wrong doings, honestly seating with self in contemplation and reflection of situations were alcoholism had again been a trigger for events that left I and some of the people involved in unhealthy compromising situations.

So whatever came over me to announce on social media on the 1st of January 2023 the sobriety journey, also directed me to where support can be accessed, and ways to keep self in check and accountable. Now some things that would have been missed in the past have become obvious, like for example innocently stopping on a drive in the countryside to use the pub toilet, the obvious temptation that the pub was filled with alcohol wouldn’t have registered, now that these sorts of temptations are more obvious, the ability to avoid them are stronger. You can’t avoid what you don’t see.

In this 8 days of official sobriety, self commitment has been the thing that has been revealed. In the way that the world is consciously currently navigated which is guidance by the divine through nature and the manifestations of the forces of nature, “Thy will be done oh Lord” when something is revealed it takes a while for the meaning to be presented, and when the meaning is presented, it takes a while for it to be practiced and become meaningful. In the last 8 days, the idea of self commitment has led to consciously take certain actions and behaviours that have revealed new insight about some of the ways to operate with clarity, and honesty, that can and will help on the sobriety journey truthfully, with strong determination and NO EXCUSES.

Self commitment is a new lesson, and as this is learned, the hope is to be able to share this with you, what this looks like, its physical manifestations, and any other gifts that this lesson will like to pass on. A prayer that the divine guides us all to honesty, a prayer of peace, a prayer for strong determination in the areas of our life’s that it is needed, a prayer of love in our hearts, and above all a prayer that collectively all our disEases and disturbances be healed. Have a blessed week, you can do it, you just need to do it, stay strong and soft, love you.
